Severance & Employment Agreements

We review severance agreements, employment contracts, arbitration agreements, releases, and restrictive covenants so employees understand what they are being asked to sign.

Understanding the issue

A severance agreement may exchange additional compensation for a release of legal claims. The payment amount is only one part of the decision: the scope of the release, ongoing obligations, benefits, and signing deadlines also matter.

Federal age-discrimination waivers have special requirements, and California law can affect other terms. Do not assume every agreement carries the same review or revocation period. Bring the complete document and related attachments for review.

What we review

  • Payment terms and amounts already owed separately
  • Release, confidentiality, non-disparagement, and dispute-resolution clauses
  • Signature deadlines, attachments, and earlier agreements

What to prepare

  • Complete proposed agreement and all attachments
  • Offer letter, prior contracts, and employer correspondence
  • Pay and benefit information and any stated deadline

Frequently asked questions

Should I send only the signature page?

No. The meaning of a clause may depend on definitions and other sections. Provide the entire agreement through the agreed document-sharing process.

Can I ask for a review if I already signed?

Yes. Tell us the signing date and any payments received. Whether a particular provision can be challenged requires review of the agreement and circumstances.

Consultation and timing

Filing deadlines depend on the claim and procedure. Tell us about an approaching deadline, agency notice, or signature request when contacting us. Requesting a consultation does not extend a deadline or establish an attorney-client relationship.
